Buckinghamshire benefits from a uniquely rural makeup within the greater South East, and as such, is one of county's greatest assets. Buckinghamshire's rural communities form the backbone of the county's economy, with their pre-dominance of SMEs, the variety of bustling and historic Market Towns and also the presence of some of the UK's most picturesque countryside in the form of the Chiltern Hills, both of which help to solidify the county as a major tourist attraction.

As such, BELP helps to support a number of projects and initiatives which seek to secure the vitality and sustainability of the county's rural communities. This includes coordinating the Buckinghamshire Rural Affairs Group (BRAG) and driving forward the delivery of the Rural Strategy for Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes, 2008-2012.

BELP also plays a key role in supporting the delivery of the LEADER rural economic development funding programme throughout Buckinghamshire, as both an active member of the Local Action Groups and and through its involvement in the project appraisal process.
